Fall conferences will be held from 2:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15th and Wednesday, October 22nd. This is your chance to visit your child’s classroom and discuss the progress they are making this year. Look for scheduling slips to come home in early October. Be sure to drop in on the specials teachers to say ‘hi’ and get an update. The PTA will be holding a Book Fair in the Media Center on both dates, and would love to show you some great gift ideas. This is also a chance to turn in those Box Tops and Labels for Education that you have been saving.
Lifetouch has asked to change Park Avenue’s Fall Picture Day to Friday, October 10, 2014. Picture Order Forms will be sent home the week of September 29th to give families an opportunity to select the package they want. Order forms should come back to school with the student on October 10th, and be handed to the photographer when the class goes to their assigned time.

Students at 35 Des Moines schools and three learning centers can now eat breakfast and lunch at no cost because of a special U.S. Dept. of Agriculture program targeting high poverty schools throughout the U.S. The move will ensure students are focused on learning and not on hunger. Park Avenue Elementary School will soon be home to a new playground. The old one was destroyed by arson in the Spring. The two-man construction crew plans to have the more than 500 pieces and 800 pounds of bolts assembled by the end of next week. Click the image to read more and see photos of the progress.
