Biography

Hello!  This is my third year as the school nurse at Park Avenue. I have been a nurse at south side schools for over 23 years. I received my BSN from the University of Iowa College of Nursing  (Go Hawkeyes!). My husband and I have two grown daughters, whom we love to visit. In my free time, I enjoy walking, bicycling, reading and paying with my new puppy, Gracie.

My goal is to continue to demonstrate and inspire a desire for lifelong healthful habits in our students.

Biography

Hello Park Avenue school community! I am Kyla Loucks, the Orchard Place School Based Mental Health Therapist for Park Avenue Elementary. Through Orchard Place's partnership with Des Moines Schools I have the opportunity to meet with students during the school day, making mental health therapy more accessible and convenient for children and their families. Through a referral from Park Avenue staff or caregiver request I meet with students in times of transition or stress. My goal is to partner with caregivers and school staff to help a child meet their improvement goals. Outside of school you can usually find me spending time with my husband and three kids, exploring local events or cheering for the Hawkeyes!

Biography

Hello Park Avenue families and friends! I am starting my 5th year here at Park Avenue, though this is my 8th year with DMPS.  I enjoy being around your students, and helping the school day run smoothly.  I love to read, and am very excited about Mrs. Hurt and Mrs. Allen's work on the Reading Challenge. While I am related to people who have graduated from both Iowa and Iowa State, you can find me cheering on the Drake Women's basketball and volleyball teams.

Hopes and Dreams:  I hope to introduce more families to the Park Avenue website to keep everyone up-to-date on school happenings.
