Mrs. Allen has made another batch of pillows for the second reading challenge at Park Avenue. Read a book, submit the title (K-2) or a summary (3-5) to Ms. Hurt in the library, and be entered into the drawing. There are a lot of great new pillows. Get excited and get reading!

The first reading challenge for the year is finished and Park Avenue had a great turnout for the number of students involved. Several students won pillows made by Mrs. Allen. There is a new round of pillows up for grabs as the second reading challenge kicks off. Happy Reading!!
The Pennies for Patients fundraiser was a huge success at Park Avenue this year. Our students worked together to raise almost $900 to send directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Des Moines Parks and Recreation and Des Moines Public Schools are partnering to offer a youth basketball league for the 2014-2015 season. The program is for students in grades 1st through 7th. The registration deadline is October 17 and fees are $50 per student or $450 per team. Click the image to learn more and register to play.
Park Avenue Elementary School held their annual field day on September 26th. To raise money for the school’s PTA, raffle tickets were sold to students for the chance to throw a pie at Principal Dianna Anderson, Tonya Bergmann, Allie Mackey, or Laura Steward. After the pies were thrown, school members completed the Ice Bucket Challenge.
